radioactive iodine

Description

A form of iodine that gives off radiation.

Radioactive iodine is a type of radioisotope. It is mainly used for thyroid nuclear scans, but may also be used in systemic radiation therapy.

Iodine-131 or I-131 is one type of radioactive iodine.
