glioma

Description

A cancerous (malignant) tumour that starts in glial cells (cells that surround, support and insulate neurons) found in the central nervous system (CNS), including the brain and spinal cord.

The 3 main types of glioma are astrocytoma, ependymoma and oligodendroglioma. There are also mixed glial tumours (tumours that are made up of 2 different types of glial cells).
