There’s lots you can do to reduce your risk of cancer – and that includes living a healthy, active lifestyle. But it can be challenging to know where to start. Luckily, the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) has easy ways you can get moving and help change the future of cancer.
Here are 3 ways you can enjoy the sun safely and get active to save and improve lives.

1. Join a social fundraising challenge
Physical activity reduces your risk for different types of cancer, so why not take on a social challenge to inspire you to move more this summer?
Choose one of CCS’s social fundraising challenges happening this August and raise funds to help move cancer research forward by taking part in:
Challenges are month-long opportunities to help raise funds in a meaningful way with a community of fundraisers who are committed to transforming the future of cancer. Invite your friends and family to join you in getting active and making an impact.
It's free to sign up – all you have to do is get started! And that’s a great first step.

2. Host your own fundraiser
When you start a fundraiser, you call all the shots! Whether you want to golf, kayak, set a walking goal, or organize a baseball, basketball or soccer tournament, you can fundraise your way and choose where you want your money to go!
For Rhonda Navin, CCS had always been a part of her life – she remembers fundraising for the cancer cause in school and has participated in CCS’s Relay For Life and Go Dry. So, when people she loved were impacted by cancer, she brought her passion for volunteering and fundraising together with her love of golf to raise funds as part of CCS’s Golf for Cancer.
“Having ladies in our club who have faced breast cancer and who are recovering or are cancer-free now really helped to raise the awareness of the importance of fundraising,” says Rhonda. “It’s the fact that we all know them; we golf with them; they’re our friends and our neighbours.”
