transitional cell

Description

A type of epithelial cell found in the epithelium lining the inside of the renal pelvis (in the kidney), the ureters and the bladder.

Transitional cells can change their shape as the renal pelvis, ureter and bladder stretch when they fill with urine. They are not damaged by the strong acid in urine.
