teratoma

Description

A tumour that starts in germ cells (sperm cells in males and egg cells in females) and can contain different types of tissue, such as hair, muscle and bone.

Teratomas can be non-cancerous (benign) or cancerous (malignant). They most often develop in the ovaries, testicles and the lower back or tailbone in children.
