Description

Any of a group of substances that have a certain chemical structure and are involved in regulating body functions.

Examples of steroids include sex hormones (such as estrogen and testosterone), cholesterol and corticosteroids produced by the adrenal gland.

Steroids occur naturally in the body. They may also be produced in the lab.
