polycythemia vera

Description

One of a group of blood diseases (calledmyeloproliferative neoplasms) where there are too many red blood cells in the blood and bone marrow. The white blood cells and platelets may also increase.

The extra blood cells make the blood too thick to flow properly, which can lead to bleeding problems such as blood clots.
