myelography

Description

A procedure used to x-ray the spinal cord and spinal column. A contrast medium is injected into the space around the spinal cord to make structures show up clearly on the x-ray image.

Doctors use myelography to look for tumours or abnormalities that affect the vertebrae, spinal cord, nerves and blood vessels around the spine.

The x-ray image produced is called a myelogram.
