luteinizing hormone


A hormone that is involved in reproduction. In females, it makes the ovaries release eggs and hormones that get the uterus (womb) ready to receive a fertilized egg. In males, it makes the testicles produce testosterone.

Luteinizing hormone is made by the pituitary gland.

Also called interstitial cell-stimulating hormone and lutropin.
