International Staging System (ISS)

Description

A system used to describe the extent (stage) of multiple myeloma.

The 3 stages in the ISS are based on the amount of albumin (the main protein found in plasma that helps to maintain blood volume) and beta-2-microglobulin (a protein found on the surface of cells that plays a role in immune response) in the blood.
