idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura

A condition in which auto-antibodies attack and destroy platelets (blood cells that cause clotting). Signs and symptoms include bleeding under the skin (which causes purplish patches called purpura) or from the nose, mouth, digestive tract or urinary tract.

Also called immune thrombocytopenic purpura.
