Description

An aggressive cancerous (malignant) tumour that starts in astrocytes (star-shaped glial cells that surround, support and protect neurons) found in the central nervous system (CNS), including the brain and spinal cord.

Glioblastoma multiforme is an aggressive type of glioma, specifically an astrocytoma.

Also called glioblastoma or grade IV astrocytoma.
