Description

A specialized cell that surrounds, supports and insulates neurons (nerve cells) in the central nervous system (CNS), including the brain and spinal cord.

The main types of glial cells are oligodendrocytes, astrocytes, microglia and ependymal cells.

Also called neuroglia.
