Description

A procedure to remove tissues or cells from the body so they can be examined under a microscope. It is used to check for cancer.

Imaging tests, such as CT scans and x-rays, may be used to find the exact area that needs to be removed.

There are different types of biopsy, including fine needle aspiration, surgical biopsy and endoscopic biopsy.
