biliary tract

The pathway that bile (a yellow-green fluid that helps digest fat) takes from the liver to the small intestine.

The biliary tract includes the gallbladder and the bile ducts inside and outside the liver. Bile can travel from the liver directly to the small intestine. It can also travel to the gallbladder where it is stored and then released into the small intestine.

Also called the bile tract.
