Pancreatic cancer statistics

Last medical review:

Although pancreatic cancer is not one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in Canada, it is expected to be the third leading cause of cancer death in 2023.

To provide the most current cancer statistics, statistical methods are used to estimate the number of new cancer cases and deaths until actual data become available.

Incidence and mortality

Incidence is the total number of new cases of cancer. Mortality is the number of deaths due to cancer.

It is estimated that in 2023:

  • 7,200 Canadians will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
  • 5,900 Canadians will die from pancreatic cancer.
  • 4,000 men will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and 3,100 will die from it.
  • 3,200 women will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and 2,800 will die from it.
