If neuroblastoma spreads
Cancer cells can spread from immature nerve cells (called neuroblasts) to other parts of the body. This spread is called metastasis.
Understanding how a type of cancer usually grows and spreads helps your child’s healthcare team plan treatment and future care. If neuroblastoma spreads, it can spread to the following:
- lymph nodes
- bone, including bones of the eye socket (called the periorbital bones)
- bone marrow
- liver
- skin
- lung
- brain and spinal cord (called the central nervous system, or CNS)
