5 tips to increase your fundraising at the CIBC Run for the Cure

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Canada and the second leading cause of cancer-related death. The Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure is the largest, single-day event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer in Canada.

For one powerful day, we come together to run, walk, fundraise, and honour the important people in our lives affected by breast cancer. But the impact lasts far beyond Run day - making life-saving breast cancer research possible, funding compassionate care and giving the gift of hope for people affected by breast cancer.

It’s not too late to join the CIBC Run for the Cure and change breast cancer forever. Join us on Sunday, October 5.

When you sign up and fundraise for the CIBC Run for the Cure, you are showing your commitment to changing the future of breast cancer. Make a larger impact at the Run by using these 5 tips:

1. Share your fundraising on social media

Tell your story – let people know why you are participating in the CIBC Run for the Cure and your connection to the breast cancer cause. Include photos or make a quick video to grab people’s attention. Put a face to your ask to donate so that it’s more personal.

If you consistently post on your preferred social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn, people will see your fundraising effort. You can also thank donors on social media. Expressing your gratitude through public recognition can make them feel appreciated and will inspire others to donate and get the same recognition.

2. Download the Canadian Cancer Society app

Stay connected and make fundraising as easy as possible with the new Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) app. The app is available on the Apple App Store and the Google Play store for Android devices.

With the app you can send emails, text messages, post on social media and even have a personalized QR code for people to scan and donate to your page.

Check out our App User Guide for more information and how to use the new CCS app to all its potential.

3. Create a list of potential donors using the "sphere of influence" approach

Creating your “sphere of influence” using our worksheet can help you get a bigger picture of who you can reach out to and ask for donations for your Run campaign. You might just find more opportunities than you previously thought.

4. Follow up with your network

Life gets busy and sometimes people need a reminder to donate. You may have reached out to your network when you started your CIBC Run for the Cure fundraising, but a gentle reminder is always appreciated.

It’s easy to forget, send a thoughtful check-in today!

5. Organize a fundraising event or activity

Take your fundraising to the next level by creating and organizing an in-person fundraising event.

It doesn’t have to be too complicated – let people know you are accepting donations as part of a birthday party, invite your friends over for a movie night or start a fitness challenge at your gym. There are endless opportunities for you to organize a fun event centred around your fundraising for the Run.
