Finding community online

Laura White
Laura White, metastatic breast cancer patient

Most cancers, if they do reoccur, do so within the first five years. For Laura White, that milestone was fast approaching when she received terrible news – her breast cancer had not only returned, but metastasized, spreading to her liver.

Facing cancer for the second time was hard not only on Laura, but her family as well – the experience was stressful, and left family members feeling anxious. To cope with her diagnosis without worrying her family anymore, Laura turned to CancerConnection.ca, the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS)’s online community where cancer patients and caregivers can share their experiences, build relationships, and seek advice.

“The support network that is available gave me peace of mind and real information,” says Laura of her CancerConnection.ca experience. “It gave me hope.”
