Giving through a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a flexible way to support the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) while directing your gift to advance life-saving research and improve the lives of people affected by cancer.

If you wish to recommend a grant to CCS you may do so through your DAF portal or by contacting your provider, who will be able to facilitate your gift using the details below. If you have any questions or would like to discuss a specific designation, we’re here to help.

In Canada, a DAF is a philanthropic giving account established within a public foundation that functions like a charitable savings account, allowing the account holder to make an irrevocable financial contribution to a registered charity such as the Canadian Cancer Society.
Individuals can transfer cash, publicly traded securities (stocks/bonds), or other assets to a sponsoring organization and claim a tax receipt at the time of the contribution. The DAF assets are invested tax-free and grow for future giving, depending on how and when the funds are distributed.

DAFs appeal to many Canadians because they:

  • simplify the giving process, centralizing all gift giving and receipting in one place
  • provide flexibility, allowing you to give to any registered Canadian charity at a time and for an amount of your choosing
  • allow for long term planning as you can pass your DAF to the next generation or allocate it to a charity of your choice as part of your estate plans
  • facilitate anonymity should you wish to keep your giving private.
Canadians can establish and hold Donor-Advised Funds through their local community foundation, financial institution, or other national providers (e.g., Canada Helps).
