varicella zoster virus

Description

A type of herpes virus that causes chickenpox (a highly infectious disease that causes a blister-like rash, itching, fatigue and fever) and shingles (a reactivation of the virus that causes a painful blister-like rash, usually on one side of the body).

Also called Human herpesvirus 3 (HHV-3).
