transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)

Description

A procedure that uses an ultrasound probe or transducer inserted in the rectum to produce images of structures near the rectum, including the prostate.

Doctors use TRUS to look for tumours or other abnormalities.

Also called endorectal ultrasound (ERUS).
