Mrs. Roper’s Romp

Ever heard of the sitcom, Three’s Company? Enthusiasts from New Brunswick dress up every year as Mrs. Roper – one of the characters from the show – and raise funds for the breast cancer cause through entrance fees and donations. The annual event is held in honour of Jennifer Allaby, who passed away from breast cancer in 2021 at the age of 52. Her sister Becky says she was “an incredible person who touched the lives of everyone she met, much like Helen Roper.”

Fighting back: Wrestling with Cancer

Organized in honour of Phrank Morin, an up-and-coming wrestler whose time in the ring was cut short by cancer, this Ottawa wrestling event attracts major wrestling stars from promotions like AEW and WWE, who volunteer their time and talent to support the cause. Cancer survivors in the wrestling world like Richard Holiday, who is cancer-free after being diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2022, have also been part of the show. Most recently, AEW wrestler and Ottawa-area local Evil Uno used his presence on TV and Twitch to start his own promotion called Mystery Wrestling, which hosted a 24-hour wrestling match livestream to support the cause.

Push for the Cure

A 3-day, 159 km push from Toronto to Niagara Falls by skateboard – if it sounds intense, it is! To add to the fun, the group also had pit stops along the way for dance parties, photo ops, meals together, and overnight camping. This adrenaline-pumping event brought people together to raise funds for breast cancer research.
