Anick Lemay is the ambassador for the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure in Quebec

Montreal, Wednesday, August 19, 2026 —

The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) has announced that Anick Lemay, an actress and author, will serve as the Quebec ambassador for the 35th annual Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure, the largest breast cancer fundraiser in the country. For the occasion, she is inviting Quebecers to come together on Sunday, October 4 in Montreal, Quebec City, Sherbrooke and Val-d’Or.

Having openly shared her experience with the disease through her book and television show Le gouffre lumineux, Anick wishes to convey a message of hope and solidarity. She recognizes that advances over the past several decades have improved the quality of life and survival rates for people with breast cancer, while emphasizing that much work remains to be done.

Every year, thousands of people are diagnosed with breast cancer and the needs remain significant. By participating and fundraising for the CIBC Run for the Cure, people are helping fund research, provide essential support services and advance public health policies to improve the lives of those affected by breast cancer.

“When I was diagnosed with cancer, I was fortunate to be supported by friends and family, by the healthcare teams and by all the people who work every day to advance breast cancer research. No one should face cancer alone. That’s why I’m proud to join the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure as an ambassador. This day reminds us that together, we are stronger than the disease and that we can make a real difference for people affected by breast cancer.” — Anick Lemay, Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure Ambassador

It is estimated that one (1) in eight Canadians will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Thanks to funds raised through the CIBC Run for the Cure and decades of investment, breast cancer survival rates continue to climb. In Quebec, it is the most diagnosed cancer in women, accounting for a quarter of all new cases in the population. In 2026, an estimated 8,300 women in Quebec will be diagnosed with breast cancer and approximately 1,350 will die of the disease. Among men, the projections are 85 new cases and 15 deaths during the year.
