Grants for new investigators

This category is not open to applications. Details are provided for information only.

1. Purpose

The purpose of this program is to assist new investigators who are beginning a career in cancer research to obtain their first research grant.

2. Eligibility

Applicants should be new investigators who have no more than two (2) years experience as an independent investigator at the time of application and who have not previously received a research grant as a Principal Investigator from a national peer-review agency. Applicants who are in receipt of research funding such as an Idea or Feasibility grant are eligible to apply.

Investigators who have a firm offer of a research position at an eligible Host Institution and where the appointment is not contingent on the success of this application, can submit an application as Principal Investigator provided that the position commences by July 1, 2011. In such cases, a letter from an appropriate authority of the Host Institution must be included (in the appendices of your application), which provides clear details as to the exact nature of the appointment (including title and major responsibilities), as well as the expected start date and duration of the appointment.

Investigators must supply a letter outlining their grant history (grant type and their role) and eligibility under the New Investigator category. The Principal Investigator must justify the purpose if Idea/Feasibility/Proof of Concept grants are currently held. This letter should be included in the Other funding section of the application.

3. Requirements and grant conditions

Other than eligibility criteria, the requirements and grant conditions are identical to those outlined in the research grants section and in the financial administration section.
