Current funding opportunities
CCSRI research programs have recently been redesigned to align with the 3 Ends of the Canadian Cancer Society Nationwide Strategic Plan 2010-15. The newly structured programs will fund research in End 1 (reduced incidence of cancer), End 2 (reduced mortality from cancer) and End 3 (improved quality of life). The aims of the research program are to build capacity in End 1, sustain excellence and support innovation in End 2 and bring focus to End 3. CCSRI programs offer cross-disciplinary opportunities within End-specific programs and draw on the excellence and capacity of the established biomedical/translational community to impact Ends 1 and 3 as well as End 2.
The goal of this grant program is to support unconventional concepts, approaches or methodologies to address problems in cancer research. Innovation projects will include elements of creativity, curiosity, investigation, exploration and opportunity. Successful projects may involve higher risk ideas, but will have the potential for “high reward”, i.e. to significantly impact our understanding of cancer and generate new possibilities to combat the disease by introducing novel ideas into use or practice.
The goal of this grant program is to provide a mechanism for scientists to adopt innovations and accelerate the application of new knowledge to address problems in cancer research that have the potential for practical application to people by reducing cancer incidence, reducing cancer mortality or improving patient quality of life.
The goal of this grant program is to support quality of life cancer research that has the potential to make a significant impact on the burden of disease in patients, survivors and caregivers. These grants are intended to explore psychosocial, survivorship, supportive care and end-of-life issues, research gaps, needs and opportunities, or models for survivorship care.
The goal of this program is to provide salary and research support during the early years of a developing career for cancer prevention researchers. The program is designed to support researchers whose work has the potential for high impact within the domain of prevention/risk reduction research.
This grant program was created to encourage ideas that will close the gap between what is known from research and what is done with that knowledge. These grants are intended to provide funding for research projects that build on existing cancer research findings and aim to improve outcomes and experiences through knowledge translation (KT) for people and populations at risk, patients, their families and communities across the cancer trajectory e.g., to assist knowledge users in their awareness of knowledge or innovations and facilitating their use in health or healthcare system improvement.
This program is offered to PhD or MD/PhD students, and post-doctoral/medical/clinical fellows to defray the travel costs associated with making a scientific presentation as a first author or presenter at a conference, symposium or other appropriate professional meeting.
Population health intervention research to improve health and health equity
In partnership with the CIHR Institute of Population and Public Health, the purpose of this funding opportunity is to support the prompt initiation of population health intervention research on rapidly unfolding programs, policies and resource distribution approaches that have been initiated by others (e.g. policy makers) and have the potential to impact health and health equity at the population level.
The purpose of this funding initiative is to stimulate the translation of basic research, epidemiological research, and observational research findings into cancer prevention action by supporting pilot studies of interventions derived from a currently-funded research project.
The goal of this program is intended to assist groups of investigators across multiple sectors or disciplines approach a common problem related to cancer prevention and risk reduction research in such a way that the end result will have the potential to be outstanding, to achieve more than the simple sum of the individual efforts and to provide a high quality training environment.
Please be reminded that with the launch of CCSRI’s new research programs, the October 15th grants competition is no longer being offered. Important note to grantees who would have been eligible to submit a renewal application in October 2011: There will be a limited pool of funds available for an Extension program for grants that are directly related to the current CCSRI-funded grant for those investigators are successful in obtaining alternate sources of peer-reviewed funding.

This is a special initiative that provides funding for junior investigators in cancer research to gain knowledge and an understanding of the CCSRI peer-review process. Selected investigators from across Canada will be provided up to $1,000 to reimburse travel costs to Toronto to observe a grant panel meeting. Last modified on:
